Withhold These Truths (In Development)

What: Fifteen-year-old Latasha Harlins shot and killed by Du Soon Ja, a Korean American store owner. Two weeks earlier, Rodney King beaten by Los Angeles police. The acquittal of the officers set the city ablaze. Amid the uprising, first-generation Korean American businesses burned to the ground. Where are those owners now? And how do their stories fit into the Black and white narrative.

Focusing on the spatial makeup of Los Angeles, this interactive theatre-in-a-box attempts to account for the lost stories of our ancestors. Through reproductions of real primary documents (photographs and letters) and guided audio from real interviews, the audience assumes the role of a researcher, retracing the story in their own way.
