Korea in the 1960s.

The Mark of Han is a historical immersive theater piece with elements of audience interactivity, inspired by horror.

Ji Yeon, a teenage girl living in postwar South Korea in the 1960s, is haunted by the ghost of her American GI father. She invites guests to take part in a shaman ritual to journey into the afterlife and confront him. In doing so, Ji Yeon discovers the truth about her father within the larger history of colonialism, war, and poverty.

Guests walk through this immersive experience, interact with performers, and complete tasks to figure out the mystery of what happened.

Not an Escape-Room.
Not a Haunted House.

The Mark of Han is first and foremost, driven by a story. You're not there to escape as fast as possible (there's nothing to escape!), or there to be jumpscared out of your mind.

Come to Mark of Han with an open mind. Allow yourself to walk through and experience everything we have to offer...

Q&A

How long is it?

We're not sure yet! We would block an hour just to be safe.

Is this scary?

Mark of Han is not designed to be outright scary, rather eerie in its theming and show context. There will be SUDDEN LOUD SOUNDS, STROBE LIGHTING, and BRIEF MOMENTS OF COMPLETE DARKNESS. However the experience is ALWAYS opt-in, meaning if you don't wish to participate in any given task, you don't have to!

What if I'm late to my performance?

We've built in a 15 min grace period into your slot, but after this time we DO NOT PERMIT LATE ARRIVALS, period.

How physically accessible is this experience?

Our experience is wheelchair accessible with at least 3ft of clearance for each doorway. Some of the floors have a kind of substrate which will make the floor uneven. Please email [ghino@u.northwestern.edu
& minakim2028@u.northwestern.edu] for any accessibility concerns!

A ghino lee experience.
